Membership
Stone’s Throw Church exists to glorify God through the creation of disciples whose lives are transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ, who come as they are, and go as Jesus says. We do not want to be a church of consumers. We desire to be a church of people on mission. Our hope is that you will be actively involved and engaged in the ministry of Stone’s Throw Church, your city, and the world. We want to make a big impact in our community and around the world together.
The Purpose
The Bible uses the illustration of a body to describe the church: "For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ" (1 Corinthians 12:12). We are all created to serve different functions, just as the different members of a body are, and it takes everyone to be play their part to be a healthy, functioning church body. We as separate individuals are all united and find our purpose under Jesus Christ, the head of the body.
The Distinctions
While there are certain volunteer/leadership opportunities only available to members, the tangible distinction between members and guests is subtle. You do not have to be a member to be part of our community or attend Sunday morning services. However, without membership there will always be some level of accountability, care, and protection that will remain missing until you are committed to the doctrine and vision of the church. Members are called to sacrifice their time, money, and passions to further the church's vision while actively participating in the community of the church to care for their fellow members.
The Process
We want you to make an informed decision about joining our church. The process for becoming a member is a three-step process:
  1. Attend the membership class and listen to a series about our doctrine.
  2. Become part of a community group.
  3. Be interviewed by your community group leader and sign the membership covenant.
Additionally, if you have not been baptized an elder will meet with you to discuss what baptism means in this process. We have special membership Sundays throughout the year where we welcome all the new recent members.
